Donegal and Galway couldn't be separated after 70 minutes

Donegal came from six points down to share the spoils with Galway at Fr Tierney Park, despite playing most of the second half with 14 men.

The home side lost corner-back Stephen McMenamin to a second yellow card on 43 minutes but, thanks to the introduction of Michael Murphy at half-time, they staged a good comeback and a two-pointer from Peadar Mogan in the 69th minute got them level.

Galway did have a number of goal chances in the second half but Gavin Mulreany made a number of superb saves to keep their unbeaten record intact.

The wet conditions had a big bearing on the game with mistakes common by both sides. The teams were evenly matched for the opening 20 minutes with Jamie Brennan, returning to the Donegal side, hitting two points while Rob Finnerty fired over a brace at the other end.

Michael Langan and Conor O'Donnell also had Donegal points while Matthew Tierney, Liam O Conghaile and Cian Hernon had the visitors a point to the good.

Then came the opening goal with Conor O’Donnell sprinting through to fire a brilliant goal. It was followed by a two point free from Donegal 'keeper Gavin Mulreany for a 1-06 to 0-05 lead.

The Galway response was impressive with Shane McGrath, Ciaran Mulheran and Oisin McDonnacha finding the range.

Conor O’Donnell had Donegal’s only other point of the opening half and there was another turning point when Michael Langan was black carded for getting involved after a Donegal player was fouled.

Galway took advantage with Mac Donnacha landing a two pointer and Matthew Tierney and Mac Donnacha with the final score to leave it Donegal 1-07 Galway 0-13 at half-time.

Galway went six clear early in the second half thanks to points from Mulhearn and two from the impressive Oisin Mac Donnacha.

Michael Murphy and Michael Langan had points to help the Donegal comeback and the margin was down to three by the 50th minute (0-18 to 1-12) thanks to further points from Finnbarr Roarty and Jason McGee.

Rob Finnerty pushed Galway four clear with 15 minutes left but points from Peadar Mogan, Ryan McHugh and Michael Murphy (free) cut the lead to the minimum.

Both sides had chances with Mulreany denying Daniel O’Flaherty. It looked good for Galway when Ciaran Mulhearn pushed them two clear with three minutes left but Peadar Mogan stepped up to fire over the two point equaliser. Paul Conroy had a late chance but pulled his effort wide.
