All-Ireland club finalists St Brigid's have confirmed that manager Anthony Cunningham is stepping down in the wake of their agonising loss to Daingean Uí Chúis this month.
In a statement, the Roscommon champions said that the high-profile Cunningham leaves the role with "the utmost gratitude, respect and affection" of the club.
"All at St Brigid's are extremely grateful to Anthony for his unwavering commitment to the club and everything he has done to help develop our senior men into great players, but more importantly, shaping them as role models for the next generation," the statement read.
"He is a man widely respected across the GAA community, as his character is the epitome of everything right in Gaelic Games."
In his two stints in charge of St Brigid's, Cunningham has presided over two Connacht title victories, the club's first back in 2006 and then again late last year, when they overcame Maigh Cuilinn in the final.
They subsequently overcame Scotstown in the All-Ireland semi-final, before falling short against the Kerry champions after extra-time in an epic Croke Park decider.
The 60-year old Cunningham, a two-time All-Ireland winning hurler with Galway in the late 1980s, previously presided over the Galway hurlers' runs to the All-Ireland finals in 2012 and 2015, including their first-ever Leinster SHC title victory in '12.
A successful manager across both codes, he later guided Roscommon to the 2019 Connacht title, which encompassed away wins over both Mayo and Galway.
This year's All-Ireland club final was the second time he had brought a club to that stage, having previously led Garrycastle to the decider in 2011, where they lost to Crossmaglen Rangers.
Cunningham also managed Galway to the All-Ireland Under-21 hurling title in 2011, prior to assuming the senior job.
