The Ulster Senior Club Football Championship semi-final between Scotstown and Newbridge in O'Neills Healy Park was abandoned at half-time due to an unplayable pitch.
Amid torrential rain in Tyrone, the game was only able to reach the break with Monaghan side Scotstown 1-04 to 0-03 ahead.
Referee Joe McQuillan tested the bounce of the ball on the surface during the interval before making his decision.
McQuillan told RTÉ Sport that "The pitch was in decent condition when we were starting, but heavy rain fell consistently during the whole first half and the pitch just got progressively worse and worse."
It was the second of two matches to take place at the venue this afternoon, with an intermediate game played beforehand, which did little to help amid the inclement weather.
Ulster council president Michael Geoghegan said the province's central competitions control committee would hold an emergency meeting tonight, but that he didn't expect the game to be rescheduled until Saturday next at the earliest.
A first half that saw both teams struggle to cope with underfoot challenges and the gale that turned this high profile fixture into a lottery.
Dreadful conditions made creative, expansive and entertaining football an impossibility as both sides struggled to adapt.
The Monaghan men quickly established control in the middle third, dominating the opposition kick-out as they edged ahead with scores from Rory Beggan (free) and Mattie Maguire.
Eamon Young got the Derry champions off the mark, but in the 13th minute Mattie Maguire produced a moment of magic, spotting goalkeeper Nathan Rocks off his line and hitting the net with a delightful lob, all made possible by a piercing Darren Hughes pass.
As conditions worsened, Newbridge dug deep to get a foothold in the game, and the hard work of Padraig McGrogan and Conor Doherty gave them territory.
Sean Young cut in to pick off point, and they had a golden goal chance when Conor McAteer's shot dropped short, picked up by Callum McGrogan in behind the last defender, but Beggan came to the rescue with the save.
Scotstown defended with discipline as the pressure sustained, conceding just one point in the closing ten minutes of the haf, a second for Sean Young.
But they managed just one score themselves in that scrappy spell, a Beggan two-pointer from a 45 metre free with the last kick of the half, sending his side in with a 1-04 to 0-03 interval lead.
No more action was possible.
A meeting of the Ulster CCC will take place later this evening to decide the details of the re-fixture.
Kilcoo are awaiting the winners in the final.
