The Cork senior footballers will have to plan without Seán Powter for 2026 with the Irish Examiner reporting that the Douglas clubman informed management of his plan to emigrate to Australia.

Powter, who made his Rebels debut in 2016, received an All-Star nomination in 2022, a reward for his efforts after an injury-ravaged few seasons. An issue with his right hamstring, sustained on the opening weekend of the 2018 Allianz Football League, resulted in a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

He did return in 2020, helping Cork reach the Munster final where they defeated Kerry en route, his first championship game in over three years, before they lost out to Tipperary.

Powter's appearances during the 2025 championship were limited, starting two games and subbed off in both.

The 28-year-old studied medicine in UL and qualified as a doctor last year.

In August, John Cleary had his term in charge of Cork extended by two more years. He will no doubt be keen to engineer promotion from Division 2, all before a Munster campaign where Cork and Kerry will be on opposite sides of the draw.
