Aaron Kernan has linked up with the Meath footballers for the 2026 season.

The Royal County reached the last four of the All-Ireland series, losing out to Donegal, and Robbie Brennan has moved quickly to boost his backroom team, as first reported by the Smaller Fish podcast.

RTÉ Sport understands that the former Armagh footballer, who worked with Sligo last season, has agreed to come on board for one season initially after discussions with Brennan in recent weeks.

Meath were rocked in March by Joe McMahon and Martin Corey's shock withdrawal from the management ticket with the pair eventually linking up with Down kingpins Kilcoo. Corey is manager of the 2021/22 All-Ireland champions, McMahon is coach with former Derry boss Paddy Crozier also in the management team.

Meanwhile, Kernan’s Crossmaglen club-mate Tony McEntee has been linked with a move to Down.

The recently-departed Sligo boss had been in the running for the vacant Mayo position, ultimately given to Andy Moran, with suggestions now that he could be set to assist Conor Laverty in 2026.
