Westmeath manager Dermot McCabe looks set for a switch to his native Cavan after his competitor for the role, Finbar O'Reilly, pulled out of Saturday’s interview process.
The Anglo Celt first reported that O’Reilly had decided to withdraw, leaving McCabe with a clear run to the post as the Breffni County look for a successor to Raymond Galligan, who concluded his two-year term with the All-Ireland SFC preliminary quarter-final exit to Kerry.
McCabe, Cavan’s head of games, was one of two nominees despite still being in charge of the Westmeath footballers. He took over as Lake County boss last October after Dessie Dolan had stepped down.
Interviews were scheduled to take place today although it's not set in stone that McCabe will automatically get the job despite being the sole contender currently.
Meanwhile, the hunt for the next Antrim manager has hit a snag as leading candidate Paddy Bradley has withdrawn from the process.
RTÉ Sport had revealed that the former Derry star being considered to replace Andy McEntee, but that now will not happen.
