Carlow have appointed outgoing Naas manager Joe Murphy as their interim manager following the abrupt resignation of Shane Curran last week.
In a statement released on 'X', Carlow said that Murphy was being appointed on a interim basis to oversee the 2025 championship campaign, which commences with their Leinster SFC clash away to Meath on Sunday.
Murphy, a former Carlow and Éire Óg player who won five Leinster club titles in the 1990s, has a successful record in club management, having guided Naas to three successive Kildare senior titles between 2022 and 2024 and before leading his home club to four Carlow SFC titles on the trot from 2017 to 2020.
He formally assumes the role just six days out from their championship opener in Navan, stepping in after Curran's shock departure last week.
The former Roscommon goalkeeper announced his resignation last Wednesday, citing "player-related issues".
Two days later, the Carlow squad released their own statement, insisting that the players were not to blame for Curran's departure, saying they had "persistent concerns with the overall organisation and training environment throughout the league."
