Sligo overcome London test with minimal fuss

Sligo overcame their London test with ease as they recorded a dominant 14-point win in Ruislip in their Connacht SFC quarter-final clash.

The Division 4 champions were never troubled by London as they booked their spot in the last four of the province.

Sligo opened up the scoring in the first minute of game courtesy of Paul McNamara who scored from open play.

Sligo would then double their advantage thanks to Patrick O'Connor before Christopher Farley got London up and running with a free in the 10th minute and Conal Gallagher levelled for the Thamessiders as the home side started to click into gear.

The home side then had a great chance when London’s Enda Lynn was denied by Daniel Lyons who expertly stopped his goal-bound effort.

By the 20 minute mark Sligo would lead by four thanks to points from Cian Lally, Pat Spillane, Niall Murphy and Paul Kilcoyne.

Spillane and a converted mark from O’Connor turned the lead into a six-point advantage for the visitors.

London were working hard but the Sligo defence were equal to them and after turning the ball well Lally and Nathan Mullen linked up well before Luke Towey added another point to the Sligo tally.

Aidan McLoughlin did his bit to keep London ticking along, but to stay in the game they would have to be more clinical in their shooting.

Mullen and Lally would increase the Sligo lead before Sean Carrabine converted a free.

London would add another score to their tally thanks to another Farley free, but had it all to do in the second-half as Sligo led 0-12 to 0-4 at the break.

A Farley free was the first score after the resumption, but any hope of a London revival was quickly put to bed as Sligo carried on where they had left off thanks to a couple of points from Murphy.

A lack of scores from open play hampered London, but Farley was doing the business as he pointed a few more frees but time and the points difference wasn’t on London’s side.

Sligo had their opening goal when Carrabine finished off a well worked move as Sligo went for the kill and would have a second goal when Spillane found the net in the 62nd minute.

Points from Lynn, Christopher Duggan and captain Liam Gavaghan were only consolation points as Sligo rounded off the game with points from Lally, Alan Reilly and Spillane to leave Ruislip with a comfortable victory.
