Ray Dempsey has stepped down from his position as manager of the Limerick senior football team after just five competitive games in charge.
Mayo man Dempsey is believed to have made his decision to leave the role on Thursday evening, following a meeting of the county's players.
In a statement, the Limerick county board announced that Dempsey and his management team will all step down, apart from coach Mark Fitzgerald, who will take over as manager until the end of the season.
The statement read: "Limerick GAA wish to announce that the Limerick Senior Football management have stepped down with immediate effect.
"Limerick GAA would like to thank them for their commitment to the job and wish them well in their future.
"Mark Fitzgerald will take up the position of manager until the end of the season."
Fitzgerald, of Kerins O'Rahillys, was previously a Kerry minor selector under James Costello.
Dempsey had endured a difficult start to life in charge of the team after succeeding Billy Lee.
The Treaty County opened their Allianz Football League Division 2 campaign with a heavy defeat to Derry, scoring just 0-04 in a 12-point defeat.
Further reversals against Dublin, Louth and a 6-18 to 0-12 loss to Cork followed, and although they did manage to claim their first point of the campaign with a draw against Meath last time, remain bottom of the table.
Dempsey took charge of Limerick last October, joining on a two-year deal as he replaced Lee, who had led the Treaty County for six years.
Before taking charge of Limerick, Dempsey, who had guided Knockmore to back-to-back Mayo senior championships, had been in contention for the role as Mayo boss but that position subsequently went to Kevin McStay.
Under Fitzgerald, the county will now face Kildare in the Allianz Football League on Sunday week and play Clare in their final game at the end of the month.
