Former Dublin star Paddy Christie has been appointed as the new Longford senior football manager.

Christie takes the Longford job on a three-year term, a month after Billy O'Loughlin left the post he had held for just one season.

Christie was one of Dublin's finest defenders in the 2000s and has since carved out a reputation as a coach and manager.

Christie has undertaken stellar work with his club Ballymun Kickhams and DCU at colleges' level.

He was part of the David Power-led Tipperary senior management team that landed a first Munster SFC title in 85 years in November 2020.

During his time in Tipp he also managed the county under-20 team and led them to a Munster final.

The Ballymun native was part of the Declan Shaw ticket which sought the position of Mayo senior football management.

A member of that proposed backroom team - Dessie Sloyan – will now join Christie at Longford. Former Leitrim stalwart James Glancy will also link up with Christie in his new role.
