Who will take the fight to Mayo?

Mayo's facile victory away to Sligo last weekend was as comfortable as most had predicted and they are in a good position to add another provincial title to the trophy cabinet.

The question for James Horan's men is who will challenge them for the Nestor Cup? With the greatest of respect to semi-final opponents Leitrim, it is unlikely to be the Division 4 side, so attention turns to the latest meeting of Galway and Roscommon.

Dr Hyde Park will be the venue and the Tribesmen will have happy memories of their last championship trip to the venue. In 2018 Shane Walsh inspired the visitors to a four-point win and a second Connacht title in three years, but it's events in Pearse Stadium 12 months later that shape the recent narrative.

In the driving rain and blustery conditions, the Rossies left Salthill with the silverware, a thumping second-half display once again causing questions to be raised over the resilience of the Tribes.

The recent body of evidence would suggest both have plenty of ground to make up on Mayo given the respective troubles in the league.

Both suffered relegation to Division 2, the Rossies winless and Galway's sole victory coming against Cunningham's charges.

The home side have no shortage of firepower in the Smiths, the Dalys, the Murtaghs and Conor Cox, while Padraic Joyce will be hoping there is little hangover from the relegation play-off defeat to Monaghan when they had looked home and hosed at one stage.
