With the Irish public being urged to maintain social distancing and self-isolate if required, we are increasingly looking for movies to watch, books to read and rooms to clean.

RTÉ Sport is speaking to our sports stars and asking how they're using their time and tweaking their training routines to stay fit and healthy.

Today, it's the turn of Cork footballer and 2010 All-Ireland winner Paul Kerrigan.


Is there one particular skill you practice every day?

I still try get a bit of kicking in most days, but doing a lot of hip-opening exercises at home recently. 

Netflix and chill or a nice evening jog?

I try to get my training done in the morning and relax in the evening. I'm enjoying Drive to Survive and Supersonic on Netflix at the moment.

Name one book you want to read

I'm looking forward to starting Range by David Epstein

On a scale on 1 to 10, how good are your DIY skills?

I'd say a 5 or 6, and steadily improving! I've never hung so many pictures as I have in the last few weeks!

Have you a favourite pre-training meal to help you through a tough session?

Almond Milk, Porridge Oats, Whey Protein, Nuts and Strawberries. It can work any time of the day.

Name one movie you want to watch.

I still haven't gotten around to Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

What’s the best way to stave off boredom?

Try get in some bit of exercise every day, be it a long walk, a circuit or yoga.

Have you any tips for training at home?

Try your best to get gym equipment, always have a ball and make the time to try new things you might not have had the time to do during the season.

Name one documentary you want to see

I'm really looking forward to The Last Dance, the upcoming Michael Jordan documentary on ESPN.

Have you discovered any new music or podcasts?

I’d be big into podcasts. RTÉ's The Nobody Zone is very interesting while Under The Cosh, featuring ex-professional footballers, is more lighthearted.

Is there one piece of housework you can no longer avoid?

I'm fairly sick of filling and emptying the dish washer. With no training I am eating at home a lot more regularly.

Favourite room of the house to spend time in?

The kitchen. It’s probably has the most space in the house, so it’s where I like to get my work and exercise done.
