A 35-year-old has been charged in relation to an alleged assault that left Down footballer Caolan Mooney in hospital with head injuries.
Mooney (26) remains in a stable condition in hospital in Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast after the incident, which occurred outside a hotel in Newry in the early hours of Monday morning.
BBC Northern Ireland reported that a man has been charged with affray, grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
A 37-year-old man, Lee Daniel McKay, was charged on Tuesday with affray and attempted grievous bodily harm after a related incident that left Caolan Mooney's brother Patrick Mooney with a broken nose.
Caolan Mooney, who had played for Down against Fermanagh just hours before the incident, suffered bleeding on the brain but tweeted on New Year's Eve thanking well-wishers for their support.
Thanks everyone for their messages, scan in the morning to see if my brain has stopped bleeding. But happy new year everyone 🙌🏻🙌🏻 pic.twitter.com/6CwkcHvuAh
