The Mayo management team of Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes faces an uncertain future at the helm of the county’s footballers after their charges delivered a vote of no confidence in the duo.
Connelly and Holmes, who have been in charge for just one season since replacing James Horan, guided Mayo to their fifth consecutive Connacht title and their 46th provincial crown in total in July with a 6-25 to 2-11 annihilation of Sligo in the Connacht final.
However, their All-Ireland hopes were dashed by Dublin after they succumbed to a 3-15 to 1-14 defeat in an All-Ireland semi-final replay, marking the fourth consecutive year that Mayo had been undone by the eventual champions.
The Mayo News and the Connaught Telegraph are now reporting that players have called for change following an internal vote.
Captain Keith Higgins and vice-captain Cillian O'Connor are believed to have broken the news to Connelly and Holmes at the weekend.
