Despite conceding just eight scores in two matches, Offaly boss Pat Flanagan doesn’t want his side to be labelled as the new Donegal.
The Faithful County sit on top of Division 4 of the Allianz Fooball League after wins over London and Waterford, where they conceded just 1-02 and 1-04 respectively.
Speaking to Midlands 103 after their six-point win over the Déise in Tullamore, Flanagan said: “I wouldn’t like to take on that mantle [of turning into the next Donegal]. I’d prefer to develop our own capabilities.
"To be totally honest, I was a little bit disappointed we’re still not playing to the level that we’re training at.
“There were spasms of football there that kind of showed what we can do. We are not doing enough of it but having said that our defensive mechanism is working exceptionally well.
"We scored [13] points so it wasn’t too bad for the day that was in it.
“When we do move the ball and move at pace, we are a good football team but we certainly didn’t do enough of that in the first half.”
Offaly, for whom Niall McNamee made his first appearance of the season and scored two points after his introduction as a substitute, have a three-week break before a trip to face Wicklow in Aughrim.
