Sligo IT and Queens University have both been expelled from this year's Sigerson Cup after they were found guilty of fielding ineligible players.
The GAA's Higher Education Hearings Committee heard that Sligo IT's Stephen Doak was ineligible to play when he featured in his side's 1-9 to 0-8 victory over Queen last week.
Queens lodged an appeal over that result on the basis of Doak's involvement which was successful but in an unusual turn of events they won't be allowed to replace Sligo in the tournament as they were found to have fielded three ineligible players of their own.
The Belfast side were censured for fielding Stranmillis College trio Ciaran O'Hanlon, Greg McCabe and Tony Donnelly in the same game.
As a result both sides have been expelled from the tournament and it is UCC who will advance to the semi-finals where they will face either University of Limerick or IT Carlow.
Sligo and Queens both have three days to appeal the ruling.
