There was a trio of home wins in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League as Armagh, Clare and Limerick emerged victorious.
At the Athletic Grounds Armagh began life in Division 3 with a hard-earned 2-08 to 0-13 win over Tipperary.
A last-gasp Jamie Clarke point secured victory, with the Crossmaglen Rangers clubman very much to the fore in this contest
A Clarke penalty goal in injury-time helped Armagh to a 1-04 to 0-04 interval advantage, but Tipperary worked hard on the restart.
Stephen O’Brien was in fine form for the visitors, who fired five unanswered points, after Mark Shields netted Armagh’s second goal on the restart.
Tipperary were reduced to 14 men at this stage, following a red card for Robbie Kiely but, despite the Premier fightback, Clarke found a late winner.
Clare were convincing 1-16 to 0-05 winners over Wexford at Miltown Malbay.
The hosts led throughout and opened up a 0-08 to 0-03 half-time lead.
Former Dublin footballer Pat Burke netted the only goal of the tie two minutes from the end to confirm a 14-point win.
Limerick edged Sligo by 0-14 to 1-09 at Kilmalllock.
The hosts held a 0-06 to 0-04 interval lead, following Adrian Marren’s fourth point for Sligo.
Sligo equalised 11 minutes after the restart, following a Marren goal, but Limerick dug deep.
