Kieran McGeeney: Managers aren't enemy number one

Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney has dismissed the notion that county managers have the final say as to how club games are administered.

McGeeney was speaking to RTÉ Sport at the launch of this year's Allianz Football League where in general he agreed with the proposed recommendation that all club and inter-county competitions should be completed in the calendar year.

He added that county managers "want their players to play club football. I hate this club and county divide."

However, the 2002 All-Ireland winning captain went on to say that "it suits certain people to make the county manager enemy number one."

According to the Orchard boss, this is clearly not the case for him and in his view, "managers don't have any say on club fixtures because it's the clubs and the county boards that make the final decision."

At the launch, McGeeney spoke of the increased expectation that goes with managing his native county and his view that Armagh "will take every game as it comes" in their upcoming Division 3 campaign.
