Limerick's third-level institutions had a tough day in the McGrath Cup as Cork had far too much for Mary Immaculate College and Waterford beat UL.
Cork now advance to play Tipperary in the quarter-finals after scoring seven goals against a poor Mary Immaculate side.
Jamie O’Sullivan, John Hayes and Fiachra Ó Deasuinaigh all raised the green flag before the break to give Cork a 2-09 to 0-02 lead at the break.
Eoin Cadogan and Donnacha O’Connor, and Kevin O’Driscoll had four goals between them for Cork in the second half to confirm the result.
Waterford began their year with a win over University of Limerick on a 1-16 to 2-07 scoreline.
Patrick Hurney gave Waterford the best possible start with a goal inside the first five minutes and the home side led by 1-08 to 0-02 at half time.
Two goals from Gearoid Hegarty gave UL some hope in the second half, but late scores from Patrick Hurney and Gavin Nugent gave Waterford more than enough for the win.
