Dean Rock was also on the mark, bagging five points, three of which were from frees.
Elsewhere, last years winners Kildare, easily saw off the challenge of Louth, Darroch Mulhall putting in an impressive showing for the Lilywhites.
Pat Flanagan's time in charge of Offaly got off to winning start with a 2-12 to 0-09 over neighbours Laois. After some time in the doldrums, Offaly will be hoping this results augurs well for the season to come.
