Ahead of the 2015 campaign, Leitrim football has been dealt a blow with the news that team captain and talisman Emlyn Mulligan is taking a year off to go travelling.

The 26-year-old has been granted a career break with An Garda Síochána and as part of that he intends to go playing club football in Boston.

According to reports, Mulligan has a admitted to "becoming a little disillusioned with the game" and added "I've been putting a lot into the game and not getting much out of it."

Mulligan's absence will be a huge blow for new Leitrim boss Shane Ward as he plots an escape from Division 4 of the league next spring. Beyond that is a date with either New York or Galway in the Connacht Championship.
