All-Ireland winners Stephen O’Neill and Martin Penrose have reportedly retired from the Tyrone inter-county panel.
2005 Footballer of the Year O’Neill (34 next week) has dealt with a number of injuries over the last few seasons, and had previously announced his retirement in 2008, only to return later that season and come on as a substitute to help secure the Red Hand’s victory in the All-Ireland final.
The three-time All Star missed Tyrone’s league campaign this year after undergoing surgery on his ankle, and played a limited role in their championship campaign.
Penrose (30) was part of the 2005 and 2008 Tyrone panels that won All-Ireland titles, and also won three Ulster titles with Mickey Harte’s side.
Harte is currently outside of Ireland, and a Tyrone County Board spokesman told RTÉ Sport he was not in a position to confirm the retirements.
Best of luck to Stevie Oneill and Marty Penrose in retirement. 2 top men and will be sadly missed in the red hand Jersey.
