Corofin and Crossmaglen defended their county championship crowns in emphatic style as they brushed aside overmatched opposition in the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship on Sunday.
Corofin crushed St Michael’s on a 5-12 to 0-09 scoreline to register a 16th Galway title.
Eddie Hoare opened the scoring for St Michael’s, but it was one-way traffic from that point as Corofin ran riot at St Jarlath's Park in Tuam.
Enjoying massive territorial advantage throughout, Stephen Rochford’s side led by 2-09 to 0-04 at the interval with Michael Lundy and Michael Farragher both hitting the back of the net.
Lundy, Gary Sice and substitute Joe Canney registered second-half goals as the bookmakers’ favourites for All-Ireland glory cantered to an 18-point triumph.
Crossmaglen drubbed Armagh Harps by 4-14 to 0-09 at the Athletic Grounds as the 18-time Armagh champions set up an Ulster quarter-final against Omagh at Healy Park in two weeks’ time.
Jamie Clarke netted twice as Crossmaglen raced to a 2-07 to 0-01 half-time lead.
Kyle Carragher and David McKenna added to the Harps’ woes after the restart as they also found the net in a 17-point win.
Ballintuber won a third Paddy Moclair Cup in five years as they defeated defending Mayo champions Castlebar Mitchels 2-09 to 1-09 at MacHale Park.
Ballintuber’s four O’Connor brothers predictably had a major impact on the final outcome, with Padraig and Cillian netting in the first half to guide Peter Ford’s side to a 2-02 to 0-06 half-time lead.
Alan Dillon stretched the Abbeysiders’ advantage, but a Barry Moran goal from close range restored parity with 25 minutes still to play.
However, Ballintubber maintained their composure and points from Diarmuid O’Connor, Stpehen Broderick and Cillian O’Connor saw them home.
Slaughtneil derailed Ballinderry’s quest for a fourth consecutive Derry title as they overcame their better-fancied rivals by 1-08 to 0-09 at Celtic Park.
Slaughtneil’s success was shrouded in controversy as Ballinderry contended that Gerald Bradley’s strike which slithered under custodian Mickey Conlan hadn’t crossed the line.
Perennial Antrim champions St Gall’s saw off Cargin on a 1-11 to 0-10 scoreline to set up an Ulster Championship encounter against Clontibret, who edged out Kilcoo by 1-09 to 0-11 in the provincial preliminary round.
A superb second-half display from Ballincollig saw them win a first ever Cork title as they beat Carbery Rangers by 1-13 to 1-10 at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
Carbery Rangers, aided by a strong wind, stormed into an early lead and built up a 0-09 to 0-02 buffer after 20 minutes.
However, a devastating response from Ballincollig saw them erode that advantage to just a single point at half-time.
Carbery’s Seamus Hayes stopped the rot in emphatic fashion with a goal after the restart, but Ballincollig responded with a goal of their own from John Kelly.
Ian Coughlan, Cian Dorgan and Cian Kelly added points as Ballincollig recorded a historic victory.
The talismanic Ray Cahill contributed 10 points of Sarsfields tally of 1-13 in their draw against Moorefield, who registered 0-16, in the Kildare decider.
Both sides will do battle again next Sunday at St Conleth’s Park after Moorefield bridged a five-point deficit with just 10 minutes remaining.
Donaghmore/Ashbourne made a scintillating start to their Meath final against Navan O'Mahony’s, bagging two goals in the opening three minutes.
However, man-of-the-match Jake Regan weighed in with a personal tally of 1-04 as the Navan side prevailed by 2-11 to 2-09.
Portlaoise accounted for Arles-Killeen by 2-14 to 0-09 as they coasted to an eighth consecutive county title in Laois, while St Brigid's hammered St Faithleach’s by 3-12 to 0-07 in the Roscommon final. The Nire saw off Stradbally by 0-11 to 0-06 in Waterford.
