This weekend's All-Ireland football meeting will be the second ever meeting between Donegal and Kerry in championship football.

We don't have to go too far back for their maiden clash. The date was 5 August, 2012. It was an All-Ireland quarter-final - the second part of a double bill that began with an easy win for Cork over Kildare. What followed, however, was a much tighter affair.

Donegal, courtesy of a fortuitous sixth-minute goal from Colm McFadden, gained an early foothold in the game. Kerry were in hot pursuit thereafter and while they never got their noses in front, a punched Kieran Donaghy goal gave them some hope of salvation.

However, Karl Lacey fired over the last point of the game to see Donegal home on a 1-12 to 1-10 scoreline. Jim McGuinness' charges would subsequently go on to win the county's second All-Ireland. For Jack O'Connor, it was his last match in charge of his second coming as Green and Gold boss.

Match report

In the intervening two years, both teams have seen changes to their personnel, more so in Kerry.

That said, there is enough in that game from two years ago to at least give us some indication as to how the 2014 All-Ireland football decider might play out.
