Retired Fermanagh footballer Barry Owens felt the time was right to hang up his boots after a series of injuries.
The two-time All Star confirmed his retirement after Saturday’s loss to Laois in the qualifiers.
Owens, who had heart surgery in 2008, told RTÉ Sport: “It’s been one I’ve been thinking about for the last couple of months, especially after the league finished.
"It’s been nearly one injury after another. I had a hamstring injury just after the league and then I hurt the ankle as soon as that cleared up so it was on my mind anyway.”
The 32-year-old added that having newborn twins at home also had a bearing on his decision.
“I’ve twins at home. I want to be able to run about with them in a few years. And the further I prolonged my career, you’d end up not being able to run about with them as much as you’d like to,” he said.
