Not surprisingly new Cork football manager Brian Cuthbert is not getting too carried away with their win over Kerry in the McGrath Cup.
Yes, Cuthbert did point out the positives after his side went unbeaten in the pre-season competition, but he knows that the real work begins when the league commences. The Rebels get their campaign under way with a home tie against Westmeath.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport after their defeat of the Kingdom in Mallow, Cuthbet said: “Winning the McGrath Cup is acknowledgement of the hard work done over the past few weeks. However, there is a complete understanding that it’s January and we’re a long way from home."
Assessing Sunday’s four-point victory, the coach added: “I was very heartened by the second half performance. A lot of fellas stood up to the plate and we learned a lot about our group. We’re heading into the league in a positive frame of mind.
"The league is a different competition and we’ll make another assessment of where we’re at at the end of it.”
