Dublin manager Jim Gavin was full of praise for referee David Coldrick after Dublin's first competitive game under the new black card rule.
The All-Ireland champions prevailed by a point against Westmeath in the O’Byrne Cup, 0-12 to 0-11, at Cusack Park.
No cards black cards were brandished by Coldrick and Gavin said: “I thought David Coldrick handled the game very, very well.
“There was great use of the advantage rule and I thought the new rules worked.”
Gavin was pleased with the performance considering his players had only been training together for a week or so.
He said: “We’re only back eight days and there were a lot of technical errors, handling, kick passing and shooting but that’s to be expected.
“We got nine scores from play out of the 12 which wasn’t a bad return.”
Gavin is hoping some new faces will emerge from the O’Byrne Cup outings that will force their way into their National League squad.
He said: “It’s a pre-season tournament and it is there to try players out and to give them an opportunity to stake a claim for a squad place during the Allianz National League.
“We took the same approach last year and got a good few players from it.”
