Dublin manager Jim Gavin has described Kildare as 'very structured side' In the wake of his team’s 2-20 to 2-07 victory over the Lilywhites at Croke Park.
Speaking about Kildare's defence, Gavin said: “They are a very structured side in that way and they played very well.
“We just got a good start in the second half, which put them under pressure. But overall – very happy.”
Gavin also felt his team could have increased their margin of victory in the tie.
“We could of scored more,” he said. “I think some of our forwards were left in isolation and we didn’t have enough support play coming through, so we still have work to do on the training ground.”
The Dublin supremo was also keen to point out that his team have plenty to work on.
Gavin said: “We conceded a goal with ten minutes to go, which is sloppy, as far as I’m concerned.
“As I said, some of our attacks lacked support play; so, there are areas to work on.”
As regards the healthy competition for places within his team, he revealed his players create that environment, saying: “The players do it themselves; they generate that atmosphere. There’s great energy amongst them at the moment. Long may it continue.”
