Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton has been named as his county's captain for the forthcoming season.

It was confirmed on Saturday that the 31-year-old would take over from Bryan Cullen for the Dubs' league and championship campaigns.

The Parnells clubman, who led the Ireland International Rules side on their triumphant tour of Australia in 2011, revealed that he took plenty of time in mulling over the decision to accept the role.

“I had a good think about it," Cluxton said.

"(Manager) Jim Gavin assured me of my role so I was happy enough to take it on board. Hopefully I’ll do the job that he requested," he added.
