Leitrim have won the FBD League for the first time after beating a disappointing Sligo team 0-08 to 0-05 in Markievicz Park this afternoon.
Ray Cox opened the scoring for Leitrim with Emlyn Mulligan and Danny Beck also on target in the first period.
Points from Brian Egan (free) and Mark Breheny kept Sligo in touch but they trailed 0-05 to 0-02 at the break.
Mulligan added another point 10 minutes into the second half, but Adrian Marren and Egan brought Sligo to within two.
Cian Reynolds steadied Leitrim until Marren again made it a two-point game.
But Brian McDonald’s point in injury-time sealed the win for Leitrim who delighted their supporters with a much-coveted crown.
Well done Leitrim..!! Great win. It means so much to fans..just had one on the phone talking me through the last minute (didn't ask him to!)
