Ballymun Kickhams landed their first Dublin Senior Football title in 27 years after beating Kilmacud Crokes 1-12 to 0-14 at a floodlit Parnell Park on Monday night.
Kickhams caught the south Dublin side cold at the start of the first half with and a Shane Ford goal gave the Ballymun side an early four-point lead.
Ballymun kicked on and an inspired performance by Dean Rock, son of former Dublin legend Barney, saw the north Dublin side take a six-point lead at the break with the score 1-08 to 0-05.
Crokes started the second half with more purpose and four Pat Burke scores reduced the deficit to three points before Dean Rock added Ballymun’s first point of the half with a well-taken free-kick.
Kilmacud maintained the momentum and a strong finish saw the gap reduced to just a single point in the final minutes of the second half but Kickhams held on for a deserved victory, their first Championship success since 1985 and third in total.
