Seanie Johnston's appeal to join Kildare club St Kevin's has been upheld by the Central Appeals Committee, bringing the likelihood of the player lining out for Kildare a step closer.

The move was approved by the CAC at a meeting on Wednesday night.

Johnston would have to play for his new club before lining out for the Kildare county side.

As of yet, there are no club games scheduled before the Lilywhites make their Championship bow against Offaly on 17 June. 

Last week, the Central Competition Controls Committee (CCCC) decided that the intercounty transfer from Cavan Gaels to St Kevin's could not go ahead on the grounds of residency and ethos.

The subsequent CAC ruling, however, stated that move was within GAA rules and sanctioned the switch.
