Mayo without O'Shea for league final as Andy Moran confirmed as captain for the season ahead

Mayo's Aidan O'Shea will be out of action for up to six weeks with a groin injury. The news is a blow for the county ahead of their Allianz Division 1 final against Cork on Sunday. 

O'Shea sustained the injury just before the semi-final win over Kerry.

James Horan's side recently returned from a warm-weather training camp in Portugal, where it was a announced that Andy Moran will captain the side this season. Moran was one of a number of skippers used by the westerners during the league. 

Goalkeeper David Clarke has been confirmed as vice-captain as Mayo look to banish the memories of two years when they lost heavily to the Rebels in the league decider. 

Expectations within the county are positive that a repeat performance will not be in the offing, with James Horan stating that last year's All-Ireland quarter-final victory will have erased the pain of April 2010.

The Mayo team for Sunday will be named later this week, with Horan hopeful that key duo Seamus O'Shea and Alan Freeman will be avaliable for selection
