Terry Hyland will take over from Val Andrews as Cavan manager after receiving unanimous backing from club delegates at a specially convened committee meeting.
Andrews quit the post last week following reports that players were unhappy and a meeting at which a majority of players voted in favour of a change of management.
Former intercounty player Anthony Forde, who played at senior level for the county from 2001 to 2008, will take over as team trainer.
Hyland and Forde's names were put to the club delegates after a specially convened management committee meeting.
Hyland is the current Cavan Under-21 manager. He has led the county to successive Ulster titles and will take charge of the team in Saturday’s Under-21 All-Ireland semi-final clash with Roscommon.
Hyland was ratified as part of a joint-ticket with Andrews before the 2010 Championship and acted as a selector last year.
He said four days ago that he did not wish to take over from Andrews as senior manager but appears to have had a change of heart.
Forde has been a member of the management team at Under-21 level for the past two years and was also a part of the Cavan championship winning Cavan Gaels management last year.
Hyland and Forde are due to manage the Cavan team for the remainder of this season and for a further four years, until 2016.
A Cavan County Board statement said: "This brings to an end a difficult week for the county. The chairman, officers and board congratulate Terry and Anthony and wish them every good luck as the commence preparation for Cavan's USFC game with Donegal on the 20th of May."
