Preview: Kerry v Mayo - Allianz FL Division 1 semi-final

It will be a case of familiar faces but different venue when Kerry and Mayo line out against each other for the second week in a row, with a place in the Allianz FL Division 1 final the prize for the winners.

Last week's clash in Tralee ended in a draw, and the point proved enough for Mayo to secure a place in the last four.

The match was a dead rubber for the Kingdom, but they have named a much stronger side for the visit to Headquarters and they would look the more likely to progress.

Kerry boss Jack O’Connor has recalled Brendan Kealy, Marc Ó Sé, Aidan O'Mahony, Anthony Maher, Paul Galvin, Darran O'Sullivan and Declan O'Sullivan as he puts his trust in his tried and test troops to reach their first league decider since 2009.

O’Connor has given youth its fling this spring and he will be pleased that his charges topped the table despite the absence of some seasoned campaigners and the Dr Crokes contingent for much of the season so far. Kerry’s only loss in the seven games came at home to Armagh, and their wins included victories on the road in both Cork and Dublin.

Mayo may have snuck into the semis, but they did so with a tremendous finish which included last week’s draw at Austin Stack Park and a drubbing of the Dubs.

They would be forgiven for believing that they would have overcome Kerry had wing-back Lee Keegan not been shown the line early in the second half for two yellow cards.

Aidan O'Shea will start at midfield, where supporters will hope he has shaken off the effects of a long-standing groin injury.

Peadar Gardiner and Colm Boyle missed last weekend’s game through injury, with Boyle now fit enough to start at No 7.

The Westerners are hopenful that two games against such quality opposition will stand them in good stead for the challenges that await this summer.

A big game at Croker will surely bring them on, but they’ll probably have to wait a few months at least for a return to the famous venue.

Verdict: Kerry
