Tommy Griffin, winner of five All-Ireland football titles with Kerry, has called time on his inter-county career.
The Dingle man was sidelined for most of last season and didn’t make a Championship appearance for the Kingdom, who were beaten All-Ireland finalists.
“I have been mulling it over since September and I just feel that the time is right now to hang up the boots and move on,” said the 33-year-old.
“The injuries were definitely one factor, as was my age, because I’m not getting any younger...I would have to spend half of this season trying to get myself right as well, so it had a big say in my decision.”
Griffin, who won senior titles in 2000, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2009, informed manager Jack O’Connor of his decision at the weekend.
O'Connor told The Irish Examiner: "He's had a great career and was unfortunate with injuries. He owes nothing to Kerry football."
Griffin will continue to play club football for Dingle.
