Tyrone's Ryan McMenamin admits that his time as an inter-county footballer may be drawing to a close, but insists that he will do everything he can to fight for a place in Mickey Harte's squad.

The 33-year-old defender lost his starting place in the Tyrone team this season and while he understands that time is against him, he is not about to retire voluntarily.

"I'll have to sit back and think about it, for I'm going away on my honeymoon for the whole of January, which means I'll miss as lot of the pre-season," he told the Irish Times.

"In the meantime, I'll take a good rest, and I'll see what the body's like come January, and if they don't think I'm up to it, I'm not up to it, and I can accept that."

Harte is expected to hold talks with McMenamin as well as other senior players Conor Gormley and Stephen O'Neill in the coming weeks.

"I have to speak to Mickey and Tony. I'll sit down at the end of the week and chat to them, and see what’s the best way forward for me and for Tyrone," the McMenamin added.
