Meath manager Seamus 'Banty' McEnaney believes his side's win over Louth in the football qualifiers draws a line under last year's controversial Leinster Football Final between the two sides.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport's Clare MacNamara, McEnaney said '[the players] wanted to put this baby to sleep, it's been hanging over them a long time and tonight it puts an end to that.'

Banty's side ran out 5-08 to 2-08 winners at Kingspan Breffni Park and the Meath boss said he was 'absolutely delighted' with his team's performance.

'It's a huge win for us – for the players, the management, the Meath County Board, and the Meath supporters – but it's one game at a time and we don't care who we get in the next round.'

Meath's Cian Ward, who scored four goals in the win, said the victory is 'just another step' in where Meath want to be.

Ward modestly played down his 4-03 contribution, saying 'it's my job to finish them and they were put on a plate'.

Ward also paid tribute to his team mates - 'I thought that our full-back line were absolutely outstanding and it was a really good team performance' – and said all the Meath players were delighted to get to the next round.
