A late surge from Kildare saw them claim the O'Byrne Cup final at Newbridge and so condemning Louth to a successive final defeat in the competition.

The Wee County looked to be in control as they held a 2-09 to 1-09 lead as the clock ticked down towards the final whistle.

However, a penalty converted by Ronan Sweeney, after Emmet Bolton had been brought down, drew the sides level and extra time loomed large.

However, newcomer Keith Cribben was on hand to raise another green flag for the Lillywhites to earn his county their first O’Byrne Cup success since 2003.
