Steven McDonnell (Armagh) and Ger Farragher (Galway) have been named as Opel GPA Players of the League in football and hurling respectively, at the inaugural 2010 Awards in Dublin today.
The awards recognise the outstanding contribution both players made to their county’s performances in the 2010 Allianz National Football and Hurling Leagues.
McDonnell revelled in his role as Armagh captain during the spring and he was pivotal in leading his team to league promotion and a Division 2 title victory over rivals Down where McDonnell delivered six points, five from play.
Galway hurler Farragher was received the award after playing a leading role for his county throughout the league campaign. His display against Dublin in particular, where he dominated midfield and scored nine points, was significant as it secured a league final place for Galway.
Farragher also excelled in the decider against Cork and his performance, which included six points, was crucial to his county’s victory.
