Tadhg Kennelly could face disciplinary action after his admission that the challenge on Cork midfielder Nicholas Murphy at the start of the All-Ireland final was premeditated.
In his new book, Kennelly has admitted he confided in room mate Paul Galvin that he was ‘going to charge in and hit someone at the start’ of the final, and subsequently hit Cork midfielder Nicholas Murphy with a heavy challenge.
The challenge was only punished with a Cork free at the time, but GAA president Christy Cooney has said further action may now be taken due to the revelations in the book.
He said: ‘The only comment I'll make on that issue is that it was looked at by the CCCC as part of an overall review of the game and they decided to take no course of action.
‘Certainly there was an extract over the weekend and it's a matter for the Management Committee to decide whether to review that and to decide whether any further course of action should be taken or not.’
Kennelly went on to say later in the book: 'While I hadn't come in and seriously injured anyone, I was determined to make a statement and I think I achieved just that.'
