New Galway manager Joe Kernan saw his charges secure an easy win by 1-18 to 0-4 against New York in the Connacht FBD League Final at Gaelic Park on Sunday.

Galway got off to a fast start and were 10 points up by half-time with six points coming inside the first 10 minutes of the match. New York failed to register a score until the 15th minute, when John Murtagh finally got their first point and they would only add add three further scores.

Galway were unstoppable despite the absence of Padraig Joyce and Michael Meehan. Eoin Concannon’s goal after good build-up play by wing-back Darren Mullally, who got two points as well, and excellent scoring from Nicky Joyce saw Kernan’s reign get off to the ideal start.

Kernan told the Belfast Telegraph: 'It was a good run-out for the side and thankfully we had no injuries. We had some fine performances, but obviously it’s very early days.'
