Young Footballer of the Year nominee Michael Murphy has scotched rumours that he is about to leave Donegal to take up the offer of a career in the AFL.
‘I've had no offers to go,’ Murphy was reported as saying on hoganstand.com. ‘It's news to me. I've heard absolutely nothing about it. I was injured for the last trials and I wasn't too pushed.’
‘I have started college and it might be hard to leave it,’ said the DCU student.
‘I'm looking forward to getting back next year with Donegal,' he added.
Controversial Aussie Rules agent Ricky Nixon said this week that he hasn't given hope of trying to lure Murphy Down Under to a career in Aussie Rules.
'It is fair to say that he is firmly fixed on my radar, however, he declined an opportunity two years ago to attend our camps.’
'I think he is an outstanding prospect. At his age, he would have to make the call sooner rather than later,' said Nixon.
