Tadhg Kennelly has committed himself to the Kerry football team for next season, despite speculation that he may be returning to Australia.

Kennelly, who played for the Sydney Swans between 1999 and 2008, returned to Kerry this year and helped them to an All-Ireland final victory over Cork on Sunday.

The Listowel native has now confirmed his commitment to the Kingdom and said: 'I am committing (to Kerry). I had a great time at Sydney. I haven't really thought about it at the moment, but I will sit down and have a good think about it.

'My head is truly, truly set on Kerry. And my heart. That's probably the main thing that has come out here.'

Kerry fans will also be lifted by the news that manager Jack O'Connor intends to remain in his role.

'You're mad to retire me, lads. I'm a bit impulsive. I'm a man of my word. I took the job for two years so I’ll stay for two anyway,' he told the Irish Times.
