Eamonn McEneaney has decided to step down after four years in charge of the Louth senior footballers.

The former Monaghan star was appointed for a five-year term in 2005, and was expected to honour the final year of his contract in 2010.

He recently said it was 'more than likely' that he would remain on, adding that the players were in favour of him doing so, but he has since changed his mind.

2009 was a disappointing year for Louth, who lost in the Leinster Championship to Laois and then to Tipperary in the All-Ireland qualifiers.

But they did claim the Leinster JFC title and the O'Byrne Cup, to add to the Tommy Murphy Cup and NFL Division 2 title already won under McEneaney's watch.
