Sean Dempsey is to continue as Laois senior football manager following a meeting of the county board last night.
Dempsey won the vote to continue in the O’Moore County hotseat with a convincing 20-6 majority.
That result will come as a surprise to many as a number of the county’s biggest clubs were thought to be opposed to his reappointment.
Dempsey’s first season in charge was blighted by discipline problems in the squad and a poor season culminated in an early exit from the All-Ireland at the hands of Down after Kildare had dispatched the team from the Leinster Championship.
A new code of conduct for the county stars is being developed in an attempt to ameliorate the situation, while former county board chairman Dick Miller is expected to become a selector.
