Galway to keep faith with bosses

Galway are likely to persevere with both their senior football and hurling managers for next season.

The top brass on both the county's hurling and football boards have handed Liam Sammon and John McIntyre their seal of approval to maintain control of their teams.

Ger Loughnane’s successor McIntyre was operating on a two-year deal anyway, and secretary John Fahy believes that the Tribesmen can build on their evident progress this year.

The Tribesmen were overcome by a late Waterford fightback in their All-Ireland quarter-final after putting up a stiff challenge to Kilkenny in the Leinster Championship.

‘I am delighted with this year's progress,’ said Fahy, speaking in the Irish Independent.

‘But I am equally disappointed that we didn't kick on and reach the semi-final stages. We played a lot of games this year and have come on in leaps and bounds,’ he added.

Liam Sammon's job will not be completely safe until next month’s ratification, but he looks likely to be handed the reins for a third year after being eliminated in the qualifiers by Donegal.

‘Liam has a three-year contract that has to be ratified each year. I cannot see any reason why he wouldn't complete his term,’ said Galway Football Board secretary Seamus O'Grady.
