The GAA won't listen to any objections over Gearóid Ó Conámha's appointment as referee for Sunday's All-Ireland quarter-final between Kildare and Tyrone at Croke Park.

Ó Conámha is a brother of former Galway player Stephen Kinneavy, who lives in Kildare and has been involved in coaching teams in the county in the past.

Ó Conámha had originally been appointed to referee the Laois/Kildare Leinster final in 2003 but was replaced by Seamus McCormack after pressure was applied on Croke Park that didn't come from the Laois County Board.

However referees co-ordinator Pierce Freaney insisted last night that the decision to change in 2003 would not be replicated six years on, saying: 'Gearoid is one of our best referees and the link with Kildare is immaterial to us.' ]
