Westmeath have been boosted by the news that talismanic forward Dessie Dolan will make his first start of the season in Saturday's All-Ireland football qualifier against Meath at Mullingar.

Dolan, who has been plagued by injury this season, came off the bench in Leinster Championship clashes with Wicklow and Dublin but will now start against fierce rivals Meath in place of John Smyth.

Elsewhere, David O'Shaughnessy will make his first start with Westmeath for two years alongside David Duffy in midfield, while Paul Sharry, who came off the bench against Dublin, will also start.
