In-form Kildare powered their way to the Leinster SFC final in front of a 14,334-strong Tullamore crowd.

Laois led by 0-04 to 0-01 after eight minutes, with Donal Kingston, Brian McCormack and MJ Tierney on target.

But the O’Moore men could only manage three points in the second half as clinical Kildare, for whom John Doyle (0-07) top-scored, showed no mercy.

Kieran McGeeney's charges stormed clear in the second half with James Kavanagh firing home a 37th minute goal which paved the way for victory.

Underdogs heading into this game, Laois blazed a trail early on but once Alan Smith fired home a tenth minute goal for the Lilywhites there was no looking back.

The Sarsfields corner-forward got on the the end of a long range pass inside, and headed goal-bound before rounding a Laois defender and drilling a well-placed shot past Laois goalkeeper Michael Nolan.

Level at 1-01 to 0-04 at that stage, Laois gained the initiative once more as scores from Pauric Clancy and Donie Kingston earned them a two-point cushion at the end of the opening quarter.

But this was as good as it got for Sean Dempsey's side, as Kildare slotted over nine unanswered points before the interval, to take a 1-10 to 0-06 half-time lead.

Kildare seized full control as four of their forwards hit the target during that spell, with Ronan Sweeney (0-03) leading the charge.

Laois looked dead and buried at this juncture and it did not get any better for them on the restart.

Doyle sent over his third point – the second from open play – and then came the killer blow for Laois as James Kavanagh fired home his side’s second goal.

The Ballymore clubman's effort came at the end of a fluid attacking movement. Smith had fed the ball into skipper Doyle and he laid off for the in-rushing Kavanagh to slot home a close-range shot.

Laois then amassed their first wide of the game, through Donie Kingston, before Kildare opened up a 12-point gap thanks to an Emmet Bolton score.

Kingston made amends with a 45th minute point, Laois's first score for 28 minutes. However his side would only score two further points in what turned into a very one-sided game.

There was no stopping the Lilywhites who fired over from all angles with Padraig O'Neill and Doyle both adding to their tallies.

With Kildare now through to both the Leinster senior and minor football deciders, and already facing Dublin in the latter, what odds that McGeeney's men will also face the Metropolitans in the SFC final on July 12?
